The New Blogger Habits that Can Hurt Your Blog Ranking

When you have a new blog, you need to do something for it. Yes, you need to increase your blog ranking so that you can get more organic traffic coming in.

Additionally, if you are a new blogger, you should make sure not to make any mistakes that will keep your blog ranking in low place. Why is that?

That’s because many newbie bloggers will invariably make mistakes in their blogging habits. And unfortunately, those mistakes can bring their new blog into permanent low ranking that won’t help it to attract traffic at all.

Here are 5 new blogger habits that can hurt your blog ranking:

1. Slacking

Hey, you’re building a blog for a purpose, right? Yes, you want to make money from it.

But, what are you doing? Why don’t you go write some blog posts?

Slacking is a dangerous habit in the blogging world, you know. If you’re not able to come up with a new and interesting blog post regularly, then you’re off.

You better do something else. However, I need to tell you that in blogging you don’t need to write blog posts every day. You can do it at your convenience. But, the most important thing is to keep writing regularly.

You need to keep coming with new content, and never let your blog to slumber for long time. Why? That’s because it will make search engines to ignore your blog altogether.

2. Content stealing

Do you think that you can steal content from other blogs and put it conveniently in your own blog?

If you do that, you will end up in trouble. Somebody will pursue you for your act of copyright infringement, and you may end up in jail (though it’s unlikely to happen).

However, if you’re lazy–no matter how lazy you are–you should never steal content from other sources. Yes, it might be legal for you to put content from article directories in your blog. But, do you want to expect that content to help you rank better?

Think again. Put something of your flavor in your own blog. Don’t put somebody else’s content in your blog, unless your blog is popular enough to begin accepting guest posts.

3. Obsessive over design

You might already know that your blog design will help you to attract more visitors to your blog.

Yes, people are more apt to visit a blog with a nice design. But, it’s not the only requirement.

It means that as long as your blog design is OK and good enough, you don’t need to tweak it over and over every single day. People won’t notice every little detail of your blog.

What people will notice is your content and how it can help them to move on with their life. Don’t get over-obsessive with your blog design.

Also, search engines will become suspicious of your blog if you keep changing its design over and over, and they may decide to put your blog into the sandbox if you’re doing it excessively.

4. Thinking too much over what you write

At last, some new bloggers are really into writing their blog content. But, there is one setback that will keep them from moving forward. What is it?

It’s thinking too much over what to write. If you want to write a good blog post, that’s okay.

But, if you’re thinking too much about what you’re going to write in your blog post, obsessing over grammar and the correctness of your sentences, nitpicking every single thing that you’re going to say, it will make your blog post sound awkward.

The best way to come up with a good blog post is to write naturally. Well, human make mistakes. You don’t need to be too fearful of making mistakes in your writing. Just write and make sure that it flows nicely.

5. Promote and promote

It’s not a time for a monetization yet. If you have a new blog, you need to keep in mind to stay away from promoting anything in your blog. Why?

That’s because it’s not your time yet. You haven’t built enough popularity and authority in your niche to let people know about your recommendations. I’m not saying that promoting something in your blog is bad. But, you should do it when your blog is ready.

If it’s still a baby blog, then it’s not the time to promote. Focus on content, and you’ll be well on your way to more readership and traffic. When the time comes, you can recommend your products to your audience without raising their eyebrows.
